WW - Lord Elgin, 50-millionth Watch Anniversary, manual wind, 19mm x 41mm to lug tips, 19mm lug width, original 18K yellow gold snap back case with curved articulating lugs, original Lord Elgin strap and 18K yellow gold buckle, original silvered cross hair dial with applied gold indices, 21J cal 670, s#50000062, triple signed. Includes the original inner sterling silver presentation box with silver price tag of $500 and the Lord Elgin logo as well as the original paper insert describing how to turn the box into a cigarette case and associated cedar inserts. Also included is a period newspaper clipping from October, 1951. In the many years our firm has handled watches we have never handled a 50 millionth Elgin wristwatch with its original silver box. These watches were made in 1951 in a single run of 1000 pieces to commemorate the achievement of 50 million watches produced, and additionally there was one dummy model produced as well. These watches were originally retailed for $500, a vast sum in 1951.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Runs, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition, no oxide; dial nearly mint; nearly mint original hands; unpolished case shows hardly any wear, still retains all of its original factory finishing, no dents or dings; original crown shows hardly any wear; excellent crystal. Original silver presentation box shows hardly any wear; tarnish to surface could be cleaned without any serious effort if so desired.
